International Group Exhibition with 14 Artists in Heidelberg

Opening: October 24, 2025, 7–10 PM
Venue: Langer Anger 34, Heidelberg

The Gap Project invites you to an international group exhibition Play and Pleasure, which places joy, humor, and play at the heart of artistic practice as a creative force.

The exhibition explores how lightness and pleasure can dismantle entrenched hierarchies, opening space for new perspectives. “Art does not have to be exclusively serious, heavy, and authoritarian,” the collective emphasizes. “Through playfulness, the structures of power can be shifted.”

The exhibition title signals this shift, from male-coded narratives toward an open, joyful engagement with identity, the body, and power.

Featured artists include: Carolina Amaya, Anna Baer, Julia Benz, Ivana de Vivanco, Diana Frasek, Anja Fußbach, Florian Huber, Marion Mandeng, Mina Mania, Sebastian Neeb, Joséphine Sagna, Lerato Shadi, Linda Steiner, Wear&Tear.

The selection is of museum quality, presenting works across painting, sculpture, works on paper, and media art. All works will be available for acquisition.

On November 6, 2025, the exhibition expands with Picture Paradise, showcasing local artists selected through an open call.

An accompanying program invites dialogue and exchange. Highlights include a film screening evening on November 15 at 7 PM at Heidelberger Kunstverein, featuring works by Lerato Shadi and Ivana de Vivanco, moderated by ethnologist and curator Dr. Larissa Fuhrmann. Additional talks, discussions, and workshops throughout the run of the exhibition create further opportunities to engage with the artists and their practices.

mind the gap

The GAP Project is a bold platform for contemporary art, playing gaps and amplifying overlooked voices.

We celebrate alternative expressions and perspectives, all through the powerful lens of the Female Gaze.

the female gaze…

is a perspective in visual culture that centers women’s experiences, desires, and viewpoints, challenging the traditional male-dominated gaze.

The Gap Project stands for

play + pleasure

The Gap Project consists of: Anna Baer (artist), Diana Frasek (board member of Heidelberger Kunstverein, artist), Julia Benz (artist), and Teresa Braunschweig (former Head of Production, Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design).

From an art-historical perspective, Play and Pleasure ties into debates since the 1970s in which feminist art demanded new forms of visibility and participation. The project carries this discourse into the present, understanding art not only as an intellectual pursuit but also as a sensual and liberating experience.

meet the gap

The GAP Project

The GAP Project was born out of frustration, and possibility. We’re here to name the gaps in the art world, the pay gap, the access gap, the transparency gap, and to transform them into spaces of solidarity, play, and shared power.

Our first curatorial project, Play & Pleasure, opens October 24, 2025 in Heidelberg, Germany. Centering femme joy, the female gaze, and underrepresented voices, we’re committed to paying artists, curators and contributors fair compensation and to leading with care.

Co-founded by Julia Benz, Teresa Braunschweig, Diana Frasek, and Anna Baer.

Through play and pleasure, we dive into art, celebrating its freedom and embracing the joy of exploration in our women-led space.
